Niacinamide Skincare for Acne Prone Skin

My first introduction to niacinamide was The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. I had read so many glowing reviews so I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately, it caused my skin to break out and the texture was hard to work with when layering other products. As a result, this left a bad taste in my mouth about this new ingredient I had never tried before and never really knew much about. After seeing my skin break out, I had mentally scribbled niacinamide off my skincare ingredient list as I believed it wasn’t for me.

What is niacinamide?

Niacinamide is a water-soluble vitamin that works with the natural substances in your skin to help visibly minimise enlarged pores, tighten lax pores, improve even skin tone, soften fine lines and wrinkles, diminish dullness and strengthen a weakened surface. (paulaschoice.co.uk)

Which skin type is niacinamide good for?

According to healthline.com, niacinamide is beneficial for all skin types, especially if you have eczema or mature skin.

With all these benefits, every skin type can thrive off this ingredient. Eventually, I began including products containing niacinamide into my skincare routine. I quickly realised the importance of formulation and texture. These two factors are enough to make or break a product for me. I have oily, acne-prone skin and so far in my search I have been able to find niacinamide skincare products that work well for my skin.
