How To Approach Your Skincare Routine During Quarantine
Updated: Apr 13, 2020
Now more than ever, people are focusing more on their skin due to being stuck inside because of COVID-19. According to statista.com, Amazon increased the price of skin care products by eight percent between February and March. The demand for skin care products is increasing.
Here are five ways that you can approach your skincare routine and get the most out it:
1. DON’T RUSH TO BUY NEW PRODUCTS
Being isolated inside with access to our phones and laptops can make it very easy to buy new skincare products because of the marketing on our social media timelines every day. Convincing ourselves that we need new products will only help us spend money quicker and in this time of financial uncertainty, that is not a good idea. This is the perfect time for us to give the products we already own a chance and allow them to work overtime. However, if you find that you are breaking out or experiencing an allergic reaction then take that as a sign that product may not be for you.
2. AVOID EXCESSIVE USE
Stick to the directions, don’t use clay mask seven times a week because you believe it will be more effective. Using a product more frequently than recommended, will only irritate your skin and destroy your skin barrier. This happens commonly with chemical exfoliants. If you want to chemically exfoliate everyday then try the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, it is gentle enough for daily use.
3. FIND A ROUTINE THAT SUITS YOU & STICK WITH IT
If you can’t keep up with a 12-step skincare routine then don’t drive yourself crazy trying to do so. Do what works for you, keep your routine as minimal, consistent and easy as you desire.
4. RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO MIX INGREDIENTS
Skin care should be fun but staying educated about which ingredients should not combined is important. Before you consider mixing ingredients, do some research on which ingredients are safe to mix and which ones are not.
5. DON’T FORGET TO USE SPF
Using sunscreen is still mandatory even when you are indoors. UV rays can still penetrate our skin through our windows. No matter your location, apply SPF every morning before you start your day. Re-apply as many times as you need. SPF 30 - 50 is recommended for ultimate protection. My favourite sunscreen is the Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50. It is lightweight, absorbs easily and does not leave a white cast.
Overall, you should be enjoying your skincare routine, it’s an essential part of self-care so don’t make it a stressful experience. Simplify your routine and do what works best for your skin!
