Body Care routine for Smooth, Soft, Glowing skin!
Updated: Apr 8, 2020
Up until about 3 years ago I didn’t have a solid body care routine. I was not aware that I should have been holding my body routine to the same standard as my facial routine. I believe this is a common mistake for many because our faces are the first thing that other people see so we want to make sure we keep on top of that routine. Whereas our bodies are hidden away most of the year due to cold and harsh weather so it’s a lot easier to forget about. I love to maintain smooth and soft skin on my body. It is such a pleasant feeling, I receive compliments often concerning how smooth my skin is and it continues to remind me that my body care routine actually works! In order to remain consistent with a good skincare routine, it is important to keep it as simple as possible and boil it down to a few steps. I personally prefer removing the hair from my body to help aid in maintaining smooth skin.
The main part of my routine is to use exfoliating gloves while I’m in the shower. I used to buy cheap gloves from Poundland, Wilkinson or Primark but they never gave me the same result as the Soap & Glory exfoliating gloves! These gloves are not like any other, they are super exfoliating, stimulate and resurface the skin. Every time I use these my skin feels extremely smooth and is effective in removing the dead skin cells from my body. Humans shed around 600,000 particles of skin every hour which is why it's important to exfoliate. It is impossible to achieve smooth, soft and glowing skin without some form of exfoliation.
Due to having sensitive skin, a lot of shower gels and body soaps can break me out into rashes or pimples so I have to be extremely careful with what I choose to use. This is why I have always used the Dr Bronners Liquid Castile Soap, specifically the Tea Tree version. It is organic, biodegradable, versatile and effective. A lot of multi-purpose products don’t always perform well but this absolutely does! It lathers well and is extremely concentrated so a little goes a long way. My skin has not shown any problems with this product throughout the past couple years so it will continue to be a staple product in my routine.
Moisturisers are also a problem for my sensitive skin. I love a good, thick moisturiser but I would have to deal with the problem of it blocking my pores, causing back or chest acne. Shea butter quickly became my solution as it has high concentrations of fatty acids and vitamins that make it ideal for softening the skin. It is also rated 0 on the comedogenic scale so it won’t clog pores and cause breakouts. Shea butter has provided amazing protection for my skin, especially in the sun. My skin never burns or gets heat rashes when I use it. I like to make my own D.I.Y shea butter mixture using raw organic shea butter. This helps me to control the ingredients I am applying to my skin.
I have a separate moisturiser for my underarm skin because of the years I have suffered with severe dermatitis in that area. The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream has been a complete life-saver and has been an effective solution for my skin condition. I would highly recommend it to anyone with eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and similar skin conditions.
Finding the perfect deodorant has always been a struggle for me because many irritated the skin under my arms or they just were not long-lasting. The Biosen aluminium-free deodorant is the best option that I have come across so far. I stay fresh all day and it doesn’t irritate my skin either - perfect!
Ingrown hairs are such a pest. As I mentioned at the beginning of this post I prefer to remove the hair from my body. The methods I use are waxing and shaving (it depends on the area). Ingrown hairs are inevitable most of the time, especially if you don’t exfoliate and take preventative measures to avoid them forming. I have tried plenty of ingrown hair solutions in the past that didn’t work for me until I tried the Skin Doctors ‘Ingrown Go’ Lotion. It is an effective and simple product that I would recommend to anyone. It keeps the area dry and the pores free from the risk of being infected and becoming ingrown.
I hope you have gained some new product knowledge and methods that you can possibly implement into your own body-care skin routine.
