Best Autumn/Winter Lip Shades

It is that time of year again! The warm summer weather has retired for the year and our wardrobes are transitioning into more cold-weather appropriate outfits. This year has been a different year for most of us. Covid-19 may have kept you in lockdown for months or even caused your job role to become remote indefinitely. Whatever your experience has been, the beauty industry has experienced a significant decline in makeup sales while skincare sales rose. This is an indication that due to the lack of social events and the fact that masks are mandatory in most enclosed spaces, the desire to wear much makeup, let alone a bold or bright lip probably doesn’t look as attractive anymore.

Whether you are wearing a lip shade this autumn/winter for small gatherings or just Instagram – I have a few recommendations that you will probably love.

The staple red lip: the staple red lip wins no matter the weather, but it is especially prominent during the Christmas season when the sparkly party clothes (or onesies) come out. Finding a ‘true red’ was always a struggle for me. Most red lipsticks have a pink undertone which does not translate as a true red on all skin undertones tones especially darker skin tones. A true red has a blue undertone which suits all skin tones.

Physicians Formula Healthy Lip ‘Fight Free Red-icals’ liquid Lipstick. This has been my absolute favourite shade for the past couple of years, it is so bright, pigmented, matte and importantly extremely comfortable to wear all-day.

Fenty Beauty ‘Unscensored’ Stunna Lip Paint is a cult fave. It is the perfect universal red, so pigmented and a little goes a very long way!

Gloss always wins: Lip-gloss will always hold a permanent residency in my heart. It is my go-to all year round but in the colder months I like to switch up colours and my favourite shades are rich brown shades. A hint of chocolate brown can transform your whole look!

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in the shade ‘Hot Chocolit’ is a dream. It is a shimmering rich brown which delivers an explosive rich shine and feels great on!

Pat Mcgrath Lust Gloss in the shade ‘Flesh 4’ is a delicious warm mid-tone brown with a stunning high-shine finish. The formula is a pigmented, soothing balm without the sticky feeling.

Dare to be bold: Cold weather provides the opportunity to dig out those bold boots that you look forward to wearing every winter! Whether you are a thigh-high girl or biker boots are your thing – there will always be a bold lip shade to suit your look.

Too Faced are another great brand for bold lip colours. The formulas are very pigmented and true to the colour advertised. The Melted Matte Gingerbread Man lipstick is a gorgeous burnt orange colour which feels comfortable on and has a delicious gingerbread scent!

In their range of stunna lip paints, Fenty Beauty have several bold lips to choose from. My favourite is the shade ‘underdawg’. It is a rich, burgundy shade which will give you the ultimate vampy lip.

On Wednesdays we wear pink: Pink is a shade that is available in a spectrum of shades. There is a pink that suits everyone. For the wintertime I prefer a very bold and bright pink.

Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in ‘Flamingo Acid’ is a gorgeous choice! It is a potent bright berry colour, has a soft matte finish and feels lightweight.

TIP: Lipliners change everything and the good news is that you can use only one for multiple lip shades. Find a nice brown that suits your skin tone and use it with all the shades above, it will upgrade your lip shade to the ultimate level of sass. Thank me later when you feel like the baddie you already are!
